Dyneema® by Avient

Avient’s super-strong ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fiber branded as Dyneema® offers maximum strength with minimum weight. This makes the number of possible applications virtually unlimited.

Dyneema® fiber is 15x stronger than steel at the same weight, with a tensile strength up to 43 cN/dtex. As well as its extraordinary strength, Dyneema® excels in cut and abrasion resistance and has a high resistance to chemicals and UV. Dyneema® fiber is so light that it floats on water and furthermore has a very high modulus (resistance against deformation). Dyneema® is available in a wide range of titers (fiber thickness), from 50 to 6600 dtex, making the fiber suitable for many applications.

3 reasons to choose Dyneema®
High strength

Up to 15x stronger than steel and up to 40%

Lightweight

So light it floats on water stronger than aramids
(weight for weight basis)

More Durable

Resistant to moisture,
UV, chemicals

PROPERTIES

  • Extreme strength
    - A rope with Dyneema® is 15 times stronger than a steel cable of the same weight.
    - Dyneema® enhanced fabric will endure under even the most challenging of conditions.
  • Abrasion resistant
Far more durable than regular cotton and outperforms the strongest HT-Nylon or  Polyester enhanced denim on all resilience tests.
  • Ultra lightweight
30% lighter than Nylon/Polyester, and 45% lighter than aramids.

Aspect to be aware of when working with DYNEEMA®

Dyneema® is recommended to stay below 130℃ in a process. It depends of a process of how to apply heat, but when basically applied over 130℃ temperature to the Dyneema® fabrics, the strength of Dyneema® can be affected or it can melt.

Composite Fabrics

AVIENT produces flexible composite fabrics from oriented fiber layers, high performance matrix, and high performance films or other surface coatings.
  • Multiple oriented fiber layers may be positioned at any angle having un unlimited range of fiber areal weights and unlimited fiber choices and combinations.
  • Composite may be tailored and optimized for strength, stretch properties, weight, and minimum thickness for local and global needs, including specific locations or along predetermined load paths.
  • Customized weights form 11gsm to over gsm.
  • Flexible composites constructed from high modulus fibers have predictable and linear properties for engineering designs.

Dyneema®  Composite Fabric is made from oriented Dyneema®  fiber layers with high performance films or other surface coatings.
  • Flexible multidirectional flexible fabric using high performance engineering fibers and engineered environmental surface coatings.
  • Customizable flexible or rigid composites for optimum mechanical properties.
  • Dyneema Composites Fabrics can be produced in weight ranging from 11gsm to over 500gsm
  • Material properties can be tailored for strengthand modulusin multiple directions.
  • Seamless 2D flat or 3D complex curved structures are possible
  • Composites can be designed for pressure retention, breathability, environmental resistance, abrasion resistance, adhesion, aesthetics, and haptics.
  • Design flexibility allows customers a wide range of options for product improvement

DuPont™ KEVLAR®

DuPont™ Kevlar ® is a heat-resistant para-aramid synthetic fiber with a molecular structure of many inter-chain bonds that make Kevlar® incredibly strong. Best known for its use in ballistic body armor, Kevlar® also has many other applications in textiles because of its high tensile strength-to-weight ratio.

Why DuPont™ Kevlar ® ?

  • High Physical strength
The chemical structure of Kevlar® is comprised of several repeating inter-chain bonds.  These chains are cross-linked with hydrogen bonds, providing a tensile strength 10X  greater than steel on an equal weight basis.
  • Cut & puncture resistance
Due to the fully extended and perfectly

aligned molecular chains within Kevlar® fiber, Kevlar® provides a strong protective  barrier against slashes, cuts and punctures.

  • Heat resistance
Kevlar® is inherently flame resistant—protecting against thermal hazards up to  800 degrees Fahrenheit. Additionally, Kevlar® fibers won’t melt, drip or support ustion.
